CHURCH OF ENGLAND You will be able to get married in a Church of England if you are a member of the parish or if your have a 'special connection' to the parish. If you wish to get married in a C of E church, speak to the Vicar in charge of marriages at that church as it is their decision whether or not to marry you.
The vicar will usually be able to marry you, holding a licence to do so without the need for the presence of the Superintendent Registrar. However, there are some circumstances in which you may need a Special Licence or a Superintendent Registrar's Certificate to marry in church. Your Vicar will let you know if these apply to you. "YOU'RE WELCOME... According to the Church of England's Wedding website "You're welcome to marry in the Church of England whatever your beliefs, whether or not you are christened and regardless of whether you go to church or not". |
On divorce their website says, "in certain circumstances the Church of England accepts that a divorced person may marry again and this has been the case since 2002." READING OF BANNS Banns (a notice of your proposed marriage) are read in the parish churches of both partners on 3 Sundays before your wedding day. When banns are read in church, this replaced the need to register your intent to marry with the Superintendent Registrar. The vicar will usually be able to marry you, holding a licence to do so without the need for the presence of the Superintendent Registrar. However, there are some circumstances in which you may need a Special Licence or a Superintendent Registrar's Certificate to marry in church. Your Vicar will let you know if these apply |
A CHURCH BLESSING If you have your heart set on a particular church for your wedding day but don't meet the requirements for a church ceremony there, then ask the vicar if you can have a church blessing instead. A church blessing after you are legally married: you will need to arrange a civil ceremony at either a register office or an approved Lake District wedding venue first, then after you are legally married, you can go on to the church for the blessing.
