LITTLE COUNTRY CHURCH
TO ABBEY HOUSE HOTEL

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WEDDING

We got married in Cumbria as we have both lived here for most of our lives and where better place with so many breath taking views, stunning historic venues and little country churches.

Due to the bad snow we had at end of November the week before the wedding was a somewhat stressful week, with plans for if the groom couldn't get through being made, guests being unable to make it due to the weather. When we walked round for the rehearsal the church entrance, road and path was in 6 inches of snow. Luckily a friend of the family got a tractor in and cleared the car park and shovelled the path way and gritted the area for us. Our stress levels were getting high and optimism was getting low. The night before the wedding I spent at my parents in Tebay and got a phone call from the florist to say she was snowed in and was trying to find someone with a 4x4 to help deliver the flowers. How I didn't break down I'm not sure.

How I didn't break down I'm not sure.

The morning of the wedding I arose calm as anything and when the hairdressers arrived at 7.00 all stress went and I was just so relaxed all my bridesmaids kept asking if I was aware I was getting married. The flowers arrived and were better than I expected, my photographer and makeup artist arrived, and I had news that the cars had arrived in Barrow and were on their way with the groom, so relief was there. I got into my dress helped by my mum to lace up the back. No one else had seen my dress as I wanted it to be a surprise since it had been handmade and as soon as my dad saw me he gleamed and said he understood the price of it HA HA. My bridesmaids were amazed by the dress as they had no hints as to what it was like.

We got married at St James Church in Tebay at 12 noon. As I started to walk down the aisle it hit me this was my wedding day, I took a deep breath looked at my dad looking so proud and then had a gleaming smile throughout.

Abbey House Hotel
Barrow-in-Furness

Wedding Venue Cumbria, South Lakes, Abbey House Hotel

Paul looked so nervous when I got to him, as soon as the Vicar announced us husband and wife he had the biggest smile ever! I remember saying to him when we were signing the register what do you think of my dress then, he replied it's bigger than I thought, men eh?

During some brief photos outside the church (as we were aware it was very cold and we didn't want our guests freezing too much) one of Paul's relations throw confetti in our mouths, good job its bio degradable HA HA.

The Reception was held at The Abbey House Hotel in Barrow-In-Furness, where we were transported to in a gorgeous blue Beauford and a Mercedes 6 door for the ushers and mother of the groom provided by A Touch of Class. On arrival at the hotel we had canapés and Kir Royal, sat down for a 3 course meal at 4pm followed by a cheese station after coffee and speeches. To welcome the evening Reception and warm our guests up we had a second reception drink of Mulled Wine before the disco started.

Our first dance was Josh Groban ‘When you say you love me' and the second dance was Snow Patrol ‘The planets bend between us'. We had a buffet of bacon rolls, cheese toasties and potato wedges to help with energy for dancing. The cake was a two tier chocolate sponge and individual muffins which the mother of the bride made. After the first dance the white fluffy booty slippers came on, the sexy heels were off and time to boogie with warm winter slippers, definitely good relief for the feet!!!!

THE DRESS

My dress was a beautiful hand designed and made gold lace dress with crystals, made by Jennifer Pritchard-Couchman. It has off shoulder straps; lace up back, corset bodice, apron effect skirt. It has handmade roses and a bow on the back and a lovely long train. My jewellery was again handmade consisting of a back drop chocker necklace, bracelet and little crystal drop earrings, by Sally-Ann Wright Jewellery, Milnthorpe. I had a cathedral length veil with a short panel to go over my face and a white feather shrug.

My hair was done by Kelly and one of her stylists from the Hair Lounge in Windermere. They braved the weather and came to my mums and did my hair, my mums and all my bridesmaids. Everyone's hair was absolutely fabulous and held so well all day!!! After being let down from my previous stylist just 6 months before the day they were knights in shining armour.

PHOTOGRAPHY & MAKE-UP

Our photographs were taken by Lorraine and Angela of 'Powder & Paint Photography' in Dalton-in-Furness who we have to thank for our beautiful wedding album. Lorraine was also my make up artist!

YOUR THEME

The theme was a gold, navy blue and white theme. The bridesmaids wore navy blue long dresses with straps and a long tie at the back and white shrugs; ushers wore white waistcoats and blue cravats with the groom, FOB and BM in gold waistcoats and cravats. The suits were hired from Lancaster and the bridesmaid dresses were also purchased in the same shop.

STATIONERY & FAVOURS

We made all the stationary our selves, invites, menu cards, order of service, place cards, table plan and table name cards. Our favours were donations to cancer research in memory of Paul's nana who died of cancer just before we met, each guest received a pin badge and card saying donations had been made on their behalf.

WEDDING FLOWERS

The flowers were provided my Carmen Floristry in Kendal, consisted of a variety of white roses, blue agapanthus, gold sprayed bear grass, coloured diamonds, bridal bouquet was a shower one and the bridesmaids were hand ties. The table centres were candle with flowers around. Button holes were roses for the men and freesias for the mothers.

TOP TABLE GIFTS

We paid for a holiday for the bride's parents as a big thank you for contributing to the day. The groom's mum got a voucher for a day spa so she could get away and relax.

The bridesmaid gifts were a little pamper box, and the ushers received engraved glasses and beer or whisky or wine.

HONEYMOON

We honeymooned in Scotland – Glasgow for 2 nights and Edinburgh for 2 nights. We had some worrying moments but we managed to get there, just - obviously the gods were looking out for us!

ADVICE FOR BRIDES-TO-BE

Make sure you plan a day for you and your groom do what you want and fight family who will try and have their say and input. Have a good stress and cry if needs be night before the day as this way when it comes to your wedding day you will be so relaxed and enjoy it so much more. At the end of the day you've done all you can, now it's time to relax and enjoy the day you have dreamed of!

If you set the groom the task of putting order of services together check ALL of them, since some of ours were back to front which made the hymns interesting!
