MARRIED IN CUMBRIA: KAREN BUTLER & ALAN WHITTAKER

A STORYTELLER'S
WEDDING

YOU HAD YOUR STAG PARTY HERE
IN CUMBRIA?

My best freind and best man, John Thompson, organised a wonderful stag do for me the highlight of which was a tour of the best pubs serving real ale in Foxfield and Broughton-in-Furness and a very extended party at his home in Wasdale. I can't actually remember much detail of it.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR
WEDDING DAY

We started with the wedding service at Wigton registry office which has been very tastefuly converted from the old magistrates court giving a delightful setting to the ceremony for family members, Exchanging rings of my own design wonderfully transformed by Stuart of "Not A Full Shilling" from a nineteenth century silver spoon (cut in half lengthways with a heart motif to make two matchings rings) and music provided by Isaac and Lucy Thompson.

It was too small to accomodate all of our friends who gathered at Aspatria Masonic Hall for the reception. The...

catering for which was provided by everybody bringing a bit of something to contribute to the feast, we didn't want presents as we've got all we need and this way was more economical for everybody. We also had a handfasting ceremony here where everyone was present and witnessed our commitment to each other.

The evening continued with dancing to music provided by the excellent band Tryckster and the slightly less excellent Dish Of Cheese (that's my band and if I can't perform at my own wedding its a poor do). The hall is just across the road from our house and needless to say the party continued into Sunday morning.

YOUR LAKES HONEYMOON

Thanks to a wonderful gift of a voucher for accomodation at Aphrodites Lodge at Windermere we had a fantastic time staying in the Egyptian suite (each suite has a different theme and all come with a Hot Tub!). My Sister and Brother in Law also gave us a gift card for "Freedom Of The Lake" on any of the Bowness Bay boating companys craft and enjoyed a day sailing the length and breadth of Windermere.

OUR THANKS TO:

JT for cakes and ale and all things in between. Sunny Dermott who officiated the handfasting. Tom Kay for the photography. Stuart of Not A Full Shilling For The Rings. Thanks to Phil Haslehurst for toastmaster duties. Tryckster. Braggy for driving us to and from the service. Jenny who made the cake. Sims Travel (on the stag weekend).
