WEDDING HATS
& FASCINATORS

Article by SARA GADD

So... you've been invited to a wedding and you're faced with having to find some kind of headwear to compliment your outfit. Some ladies will be thrilled by the prospect of trying on shapes and styles, knowing immediately which style to go for, others may see this as a daunting task!

Hats are no longer de rigueur worn mainly either for protecting from the elements or every now and then for special occasions, so it is no wonder people may not be sure which styles to go for. Headwear can make or break your out fit, the right hat worn in the correct way can boost confidence and complete your overall look, so it is important to get it right!

My advice is to try on as many different styles as possible in order to gain an idea of what you like and equally what you don't like. Never leave your headwear until the last minute. Often described as the finishing touch, it is as important, if not more important than your outfit.

Headwear can make you feel
a million dollars

Shop around until you are happy or, have something created at a milliners who will take in to account your overall appearance, drawing upon details such as face shape, body frame and your chosen outfit. A hat should never overpower it's wearer but balance and enhance features.

Think about the kind of look you are trying to portray, whether you wish to appear soft, floaty and feminine, or classic, streamlined and structured and then in turn, aim to compliment what you are wearing with the style of headwear you choose.

Generally if you choose a detailed outfit with lots of pattern or embellishment the look can be balanced with a simple hat, alternatively an outfit with little or no detail can be teamed with more extravagant headwear.

Every hat has it's own personality and you can change your appearance with the hear wear you chose. Fascinators and headpieces are extremely popular for weddings and are great for those who would rather not disturb their hair. With such a wide variety of trimmings available from lace to satin, flowers to feathers, felt to straw the choices are endless! There really is something for everyone.

The most important thing to remember is that the correct headwear can make you feel a million dollars, so take time finding the right wedding hat for you and enjoy the experience along the way, after all hats should be fun!
